Surgical equipment to help poorly babies get better

Due to a baby’s small size, the surgical tools and equipment that is needed for them has also to be very small and is developed especially with that in mind.  Although key-hole surgery has been used for a number of years on adults, key- hole surgical instruments have only recently been developed to help babies.  New developments in key-hole surgery mean that operations can be even less invasive which can help shorten recovery times.

At Baby Isaac Fund we believe all babies should be offered the best chance of getting better through new developments in surgery. Baby Isaac Fund was set up to help raise money for cash poor hospital units to buy or rent this much needed equipment that is used not only to perform surgery on babies. At the same time, the money we aim to raise will also pay for the much needed equipment such as incubators, used to care for these young babies both before and after surgery, In Austerity Britain where national budgets are being slashed from top to bottom and cost reviews put extra pressure on hospitals fighting for resources, funding for new equipment is critical. Through the expertise of Baby Isaac Fund Trustees, (Eric Nicholls – specialist paediatric surgeon at St George’s Hospital, London and Dr. Nigel Kennnea – neonatal consultant at St George’s Hospital, London), we are able to understand straight from the horse’s mouth, where the money is needed and why.
